Stephen Glenn Steve Martin was born to Mary Lee and Glenn Vernon Martin in Waco Texas on 14 August 1945. His dad was a real estate boss. As a teenager he took up selling guidebooks on weekends and summer holidays at Disneyland. He also performed magic tricks at the Main Street Magic shop and learned various tricks and illusions over a period of time.
After completion of his high school he enrolled at the Santa Ana Junior College where he took drama and poetry courses in English. Next, he attended Long Beach California State College where he studied philosophy. In 1967 he moved to Los Angeles University of California (UCLA) and changed his major to a theatre. He also began performing comedy routines in local night-clubs during this period. He soon dropped out of college to focus on his career.
