ByNitish Singh-July 4 2018 “3/3.185.jpg” Figure 1 Image Courtesy of Ars Technica The filmmakers of the films “Once Upon a Time in Venice” and “Mechanic: Resurrection” have settled their piracy lawsuit against Dragon Box and its distributors. A preceding lawsuit filed by Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE) against Dragon Box is still pending. IPTV retailer Dragon Box has reached a copyright infringement deal between the IPTV box seller and its distributors “JB Dragon Box-Hawaii Kai” and “The Hawaii Dragon Box.” Dragon Box will modify its IPTV boxes to prevent further instances of copyright infringements against the filmmakers of “Once Upon a Time in Venice” and “Mechanic: Resurrection.” Details on the monetary compensation behind the settlement were not revealed to the public however. The filmmakers behind the lawsuit claim “Simply putting Dragon Box causes deliberate infringement. The applicants respectfully request that the Court introduce a preliminary injunction requiring the Dragon Box Defendants to immediately stop their flagrantly illegal conduct. ‘ The agreement signed by the filmmakers forbids the defendants from selling the boxes before ‘ software changes ‘ are made to the machines that prohibit infringement of copyrights of the filmmakers. IPTV boxes such as Dragon Box are designed to give users the ability to access and view online but can also be effective piracy tools. IPTV sellers have recently been actively suing the entertainment industry for copyright infringement. The Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment which represents major players in the industry such as Netflix Amazon and several studios in Hollywood has been aggressively suing prominent IPTV sellers.
