The anteversion of the gravid uterus (pendulous belly) consists of a strong forward inclination of the uterine fundus, with a corresponding deviation of the neck backwards and upwards. As a consequence, a part of the uterus forms prominence above the symphysis during the second half of the gestation. Characteristics of this pathology will be developed below.
Steps to follow:
The pendulous belly is mainly found in multiparas with flaccid abdominal walls or with diastasis of the rectus muscles.
It is also found in women with a narrow pelvis that does not allow the presentation to fit, and also in lordotic and kyphoscoliotic women.
This type of belly gives rise to vicious presentations, due to the existing discordance between the axis of the uterus and the superior strait.
It determines the deviation of the head backwards and the thinning of the posterior wall of the segment.
It is also a cause of lack of fit and asynclitism at the end of pregnancy.
During pregnancy there are a series of discomforts (pulling sensation, pain), which are alleviated with bed rest and with the correction of the vicious position of the uterus by means of a girdle that suspends and lifts the abdomen.
At the start of labor, it is advisable to keep the woman in a dorsal position and lift her belly, so that the head can penetrate the small pelvis.
Early rupture of the bursa occasionally occurs, and labor generally progresses slowly.
